Σαν να μην έφταναν τα προβλήματα που έχουν οι νέες μαμάδες, χρειάζεται να δέχονται και κριτική για τις επιλογές τους στο θηλασμό. Άλλες επειδή θηλάζουν δημόσια και "δεν είναι πρέπον", άλλες επειδή θηλάζουν για πολύ καιρό, άλλες επειδή δεν θηλάζουν αρκετά κι άλλες επειδή δεν θηλάζουν καθόλου, οι γυναίκες χρειάζεται να εξηγούν και να απολογούνται για το πώς και πόσο θα ταΐσουν το μωρό τους. Ειδικά όμως για τις τελευταίες, η εξήγηση για την επιλογή τους αυτή μπορεί να γίνει πολύ άβολη, ειδικά αν έχουν περάσει κάποιο πρόβλημα υγείας.

Milk drunk thanks to @drbrowns—literally the best bottles we’ve found! Αυτή η μαμά όμως, αποφάσισε να αντιμετωπίσει αυτό το πρόβλημα με τον πιο δημιουργικό τρόπο. Η Meghan Koziel διαγνώστηκε πριν τρία χρόνια με καρκίνο του μαστού, υπέστη μαστεκτομή και πριν λίγες ημέρες γέννησε την πανέμορφη Kendra Jane. Μη μπορώντας να θηλάσει, και θέλοντας να αποφύγει να εξηγεί στις νοσοκόμες συνέχεια τους λόγους, έφτιαξε μια ροζ επιγραφή, την οποία κρέμασε πάνω από το κρεβάτι του νοσοκομείου.

Ζώνη μη-θηλασμού. Παρόλο που ο θηλασμός είναι μια πολύ ξεχωριστή διαδικασία, παρακαλώ να είστε ενήμεροι πριν ρωτήσετε. Το μωρό-θαύμα μας θα τραφεί με φόρμουλα και αυτό δε θα επηρεάσει το μέλλον της. Η μαμά έχει νικήσει τον καρκίνο.

Η Koziel δημοσίευσε τη φωτογραφία της στο Instagram, λέγοντας ότι ήθελε να αποφύγει τη σύγχυση σχετικά με τους λόγους που δε θηλάζει, και η υποστήριξη που έλαβε ήταν συγκινητική.

October. To many it’s the month after September, to some it’s all about that pumpkin spice and Ugg boots. Then there are those who relish in the excitement of Halloween and costumes. And although each of these scenarios I can relate to... 3 years ago, the month of October changed my life forever. On October 12, 2015, yes In the month that is covered in Pink and where Breast Cancer awareness is at an all time high... I was diagnosed with breast cancer at 26 years young! Three years later... On October 8th, my mom will be undergoing a double mastectomy because she was diagnosed with breast cancer. WE are the 1 in 8 women that will be diagnosed in a lifetime. WE are living with a genetic mutation (PALB2) that predisposes us for an increased risk of diagnosis. Now being a mom myself, I am faced everyday with the fear that my daughter will have the genetic mutation that gave me my scars. That changed my body and my life forever. I get asked all the time, how or if I’m going to tell my daughter... and I sort of laugh because why wouldn’t I! She will know mommy’s body is different, and I will explain to her why... I will educate her on boobs and her body as soon as she is able to understand... and I won’t make CANCER something scary... the BIG C will be explained as another diagnosis. Something to be aware of... something that changed my life... and something that will always be a part of hers. This October, I challenge YOU to make a difference. Find reputable organizations like @metavivor to donate money to increase funds for breast cancer research. Educate yourself on the signs and symptoms of breast cancer. Talk to your doctor about your body and changes. Πρέπει όλοι να παίρνουμε τις καλύτερες αποφάσεις για τις οικογένειές μας, και ειλικρινά δεν είναι δουλειά κανενός, αν δεν τους επηρεάζει. Μεγαλώστε το παιδί σας με αγάπη και χαρά και με αυτό θα είναι καταπληκτικά", δήλωσε η Koziel.
